COUNTERFEITER AGREES TO PAY SUM OF £700,000 COMPENSATION FOLLOWING INVESTIGATION BY C3I EUROPE
31 August 2008
Following a year-long investigation by investigators from C3i Europe, a major American software house has been awarded £700,000 in compensation by a counterfeiter based in the United Kingdom.
Enquiries by C3i Europe staff included the use of their revolutionary software package, Etelligencia, to identify the source of the counterfeited software.
Enquiries were made in Germany, Holland and Dubai using physical and technological methods of surveillance and identification. Combined with analytical research C3i Europe provided enough evidence for the legal people from their client company to put together a cast iron case. Faced with this extensive amount of evidence the counterfeiter immediately brokered a compensation agreement rather than face court proceedings.
"This was a cost effective, extensive and satisfying investigation, the cost of which was less than 1% of the value of the compensation received", said David P FINLAY, Head of Operations at C3i Europe.
Head of Brand Protection for the C3i Europe client company stated, "We are very satisfied with the result; working closely with C3i Europe staff has meant that we have successfully closed down a substantial counterfeit operation in an professional, cost effective and timely manner".
